A chinchilla life span is only 8-10 years which is why it's wise to buy them when they're babies; some farms specialize in their production.
These animals are vegetarians. In the wild they feed on available vegetation. In captivity they should be fed with special pellets which you can buy in pet stores. These animals can also be fed dried bananas and some greens.
