A wild chinchilla baby is the opposite of a domesticated baby, which is a what breeders would have.
The present rodents of this type can be found in Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina. In the wild, these animals prefer mountainous areas with desert like appearance, with very little rainfall, and little vegetation. These animals are herbivorous.

These animals have been around for a long time. It is thought that they are direct descendants of the Pre Historic Megamys. The Megamys were larger than the present day rodents of this type and were found in the Permian deposits in Argentina.
