Chinchillas for Sale
Since the 1960s, when Chinchillas entered the homes of many pet lovers of Americas, the appearance of Chinchillas for Sale on the pet market has become a common phenomenon. Domestic Chinchillas are not very different from wild Chinchillas, and they have retained their natural instincts and habits to a full extent. Chinchillas have long been hunted for their exceptional quality fur. Because Chinchillas are relatively small animals, many animals had to be killed to make up just one garment. For this reason, fur industry resulted in massed killing of Chinchillas, which lead to the disappearance of one of the species – the Chinchilla Costina, and put the other two species on the brink of ruin. Today, Chinchillas are protected by law and hence they are no longer in jeopardy. There are two Chinchilla species – Chinchilla Lanigera and Chinchilla Brevicardata. They differ in body build and fur quality.
Nowadays, Chinchillas are popular pets, and there are Chinchilla breeders producing Chinchillas for Sale. First attempts to breed Chinchillas took place in the 1800s. Wild Chinchillas turned out to be hard to breed in domestic conditions, probably due to much stress resulting from rapid introduction to domestic environment. It was not until around the turn of the 20th century that the first breeding project ended successfully. In the 1920s, Matthias Chapman, a miner from California, brought a group of Chinchillas from Chile to the USA and started the first Chinchilla breeding farm.
In the wild, Chinchillas form large social groups. Wild species feed on small insects, fruits, grass, and seeds. They can breed year round, and have a very long gestation period compared to other rodents – 111 days. Litters do not usually contain more than two young, which are born with their eyes open and fully furred. Wild Chinchillas reside in hollows and crevices. They have a few specific adaptations allowing them to escape from predators. They ward off enemies by spraying urine or giving off fur (when bitten). Skunks, hawks, wild felines and canines are their main predators. Chinchillas for Sale are available on the pet market. They require specific care, feeding, handling and socialization. These animals live 15-20 years, and they need life-long veterinary monitoring.
If you would like to have a Chinchilla in possession, please, buy only from responsible and conscientious breeders, capable of providing all possible information about the species and having pedigree records to each of his or her Chinchillas. Do not purchase Chinchillas at pet stores, because many of them are of doubtful origins. When choosing among Chinchillas for Sale, please, make sure they have a tidy and healthy appearance and are in a good mood.
